Churches in Spokane

Are you trying to find a church in Spokane?  Here are some questions to help guide you as you look around.

1. Is the church rooted in historic Christian belief?  This is an important question to ask, especially today.  The Christian message is over 2000 years old, and the central tenets have never changed.  At the core, a Christian church should affirm that God has stepped into his world in order to make all things right in the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus.  If a church doesn't hold to this, it is not a Christian church.  For an example of Historic Christian Belief, click here.

2. What does the church teach in regards to the Bible?  The Bible is the the locus of authority for the Church, and a good church will always ground its teaching in the Old and New Testament Scriptures.  Despite the ongoing attacks against it, the Bible remains the most historically reliable and modernly applicable book in the world.

3. What does the church teach about the culture?  Throughout history, the church has had 3 basic responses to the culture it is in.  Some churches choose to pull out of culture all together, hunker down, and wait for Jesus to return, thereby shunning the culture and the people.  Some churches allow culture to dictate and direct what is taught and believed, often abandoning the essential Christian beliefs because they aren't popular in the culture. The 3rd and best option for the church is to see the culture as important, to value the people who create that culture, and to participate in the culture without compromising historic beliefs. A good church cares about the city it is in, participates in making the city a better place, and believes that Jesus cares for the people in that city.
